Dear Students:

Have you ever heard of the name, Edmund Hillary? If not, the assignment today is to get to know this great explorer, who just passed away, at the age of 88. After reading the report on him, please write to me and tell me what Sir Edmund Hillary’s greatest achievement was and what else good deeds of his made him so extraordinary.

By the way, have you ever been to Harbin to watch the fascinating ice sculptures? You must have felt enchanted by the breathtaking man-made wonders if you have been there in person. Sadly, the show has become one of the victims of global warming. Please read the latest report on Harbin Festival and tell me what has happened to those sculptures.

The news show that ice sculptures are starting to melt much earlier than usual in Harbin. The higher local temperatures warn people about the serious of global warming. So we should do our best to protect our own nature.

I have not gone to Harbin, but I read the latest report with amazement.
Many of the sculptures have become more intricate than usual because of the ascenting temperatures.

Edmund Hillary sounds like a man who realized not only reaching the peak of the world but also his principles of living a meaningful life. I think that if he were only to be a man good at climbing icy peaks he would not be respected so by the New Zealand citizens. It was his modest and warm helping hand to the people in need that touched the helped and the ones who are from his hometown.
Edmund’s perseverance in living out what he believed to be good and true made him a happy man and a man respected by many. It’s really encouraging to hear about such fellowman in our modern life, he lived a good life for us to follow.

The ice sculptures in Harbin which is the coldest city in China are starting to melt earlier than before. It shows us that our environment is getting warmer. And warmer weather would make our world endanger like the decrease in species.

Globle warming has caused many disaster. I didn’t know that the globle warming has even had a great effect on the festival of ice in China until I read the report. It’s an important problem which we must fix up.

I have heard about Harbin in Geography class. It was described as a ice city but the book didn’t refer to the threat of it. Eventhough teacher has taught us about the global warming, we didn’t realize how seious it is. ….

It’s a pity that New Zealander lost such a great man like Edmund. He devoted himself to helping Nepal to develope. Nepalese must honored him.

I read the report of Harbin.
Global warming is more serious than it was before.
We should find some way to slow down it.
After all, we only have an Earth.

I have seen the Harbin Festival report on TV, but it didn’t tell how global warming affects the ice sculptures.
I really like the ice sculptures, those are magnificent.
I hope that I have the chance to go there in person.

He is the first man to climb Mt. Everest, the legendary mountaineer and adventurer in New Zealand. All of New Zealand will deeply mourn his passing.
I think his is a brave man to climb such a highest mountain as Mt. Everest. I wish one day I can climb it, too.

These ice sculptures in Harbin melt earlier stands for the worst thing, temperature of global grows higher and higher. This unusual phenomenon reminds us that our Mother Earth was very sick of the pollutions we produce. Everyone should aware of the serious environmental issues. After all, we only have one Mother Earth.

The damage of global warming has made a great effect on not only the island but also the continent.
The Harbin Festival will be canceled one day if the global warming become worse.
I hope that I can see it before that time.

I have never been to Harbin to watch the ice sculptures. But I have seen it on TV. The sculptures in TV were smaller then those I saw on the BBC website. That makes me want to take a look at it in person.
However, the news says that the sculptures won’t last that long this year. What a pity! I think I just have to wait until the next year!

It is ashamed of me that I didn’t know Edmund. Through the report, I have realized he was a strong and invincible person. I worship him not only his amazing achievement but his devotion helping the poor. I expect me to become a invincible man like him.

Because of global warming, the local people are worried that the ice exhibition may have to be cancelled entirely in the future. I have never been to Harbin. Through the introduction about the festival, I want to visit it someday.

I am also inspired by that gentle man. But it is not about going hiking. His spirit of consistent hardwork motivates me to learn. I give my respect to him.
